Be Kind
A dear friend of mine once had a family member who had a very rare heart condition. The doctors would constantly tell him how very rare this condition was; even pointing out the percentages of people who had this condition. One day he stopped them mid sentence and said, “Doc, I know you find these statistics on the rarity of this condition fascinating, but I don’t. As far as I’m concerned, 100% of the people I care about have this. All I want to know is how you are going to fix it.”
As we open back up, be kind and understand that some people fall into the 100% category. They are hurting too.
People are awesome
There has been a huge spike of creativity because of the COVID-19 quarantine. People come up with amazing ideas when they’re bored. First there were Famous Painting Recreations, then Australians Dressed Up For Taking Out Trash. Now people all around the world have started to reenact famous movie scenes using only the stuff they can find at home.

We are not One Dimensional.
This hold true for many things in life. I have always said that people are not one dimensional creatures. One of the finest biology teachers I had in collage was also quite religious. Politically I believe this is also true; we just let the super polarized minority drive the conversation.
I could go on and on about this but Paul would tell me to put down the bourbon and step away from the keyboard. So below is another truth that is much less controversial.

Small Business Anvil
As a small business owner, this rings true. I don’t own a restaurant, but I can’t imagine the challenges. Their margins are so small already. When people hear about business relief, they tend to think about larger businesses that can absorb some of the costs, but this is simply not the case with most small businesses. We know two owners of wine bars – go figure, right – who have had to shut their doors and do not know if they will be able to reopen.
And before I get emails; let me say that we get it. A closed business is little consolation to someone who has lost a loved one. Death is permanent, our economic situation is not. Therefore, stay at home. If not for yourself, for someone you love.

Vegas
I posted this on InstaGram already but: You know you have arrived in Vegas when the hotel sends a limo to pick you up at the airport. I’m here for a conference for a few days, then Cheryl and I are off on a walkabout. That’s an old Crocodile Dundee reference, apologies to our younger readers, you’ll have to go look it up. More on that to follow.
First is the obligatory food picture. I was famished after getting off of the plane and needed a bump before dinner later. For those of you who haven’t been out west: first – get out there. Not necessarily here per-se (sp) but just travel this great country, it has so much to offer. Second: and the purpose for this statement is the time change for us east coast people. Three hours makes a difference. Last night, dinner was at 8 pm. That’s 11 pm to us and then people wanted to go out. This morning I woke up at 4 am – again, 7 am my time. The nice thing is you can get out and see things way before the tourists do. I know – I am one, but still….

I know that some of you couldn’t care less about a bunch of grown men playing a game of keep-away. Or that some of you only watch for the commercials; others watch because everyone else does, besides the food and beer generally flows freely. And then there’s the half time show that the vast majority use as a bathroom break…me, I fall into all of the above. I like the game, commercials, food and drink – hype and all. Whatever your flavor, enjoy.
